China and Mozambique Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Date:

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mozambican President Daniel Chapo exchanged congratulatory messages on Wednesday, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their two nations. President Xi highlighted that over the past half-century, China and Mozambique have consistently demonstrated mutual trust and support, forging a “rock-solid” friendship despite evolving international landscapes. He expressed strong confidence that bilateral ties will flourish, provided both countries uphold their original aspirations and continue to advance hand-in-hand.

President Xi emphasized the significant importance he places on the development of China-Mozambique relations. He conveyed his willingness to collaborate with President Chapo, using this anniversary as a fresh starting point to perpetuate their traditional friendship. This includes deepening mutually beneficial cooperation under the frameworks of the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, with the aim of inaugurating a new chapter in their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

President Chapo remarked that the diplomatic anniversary serendipitously coincides with Mozambique’s own 50th anniversary of independence, underscoring the profound traditional friendship and brotherhood shared by the two countries. He conveyed Mozambique’s gratitude for China’s unwavering support during its struggle for independence. Chapo affirmed Mozambique’s steadfast commitment to the one-China principle, its support for China’s efforts towards national reunification, and its backing for major initiatives proposed by China. Mozambique, he added, is keen to deepen bilateral relations and expand practical cooperation with China, based on mutual respect and win-win collaboration, while also jointly defending multilateralism and promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.
