Blue Jays Land Top Prospect: JoJo Parker Selected Eighth in MLB Draft

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays made waves on draft night by selecting JoJo Parker, a standout shortstop from Purvis High School in Mississippi, with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. Parker, who stands 6-foot-2, immediately becomes the highest draft pick in his school’s history, marking a milestone for Purvis and a testament to his exceptional talent.
Parker’s offensive statistics are nothing short of astounding. In his most recent high school season, he hit .489 with 13 home runs, 64 runs scored, and 35 RBIs. His speed was also on display, as he stole 30 bases, leading the Purvis Tornadoes to the Class 4A state championship game.
Beyond his prowess at the plate and in the field, Parker also impressed as a right-handed pitcher. He put together an 8-2 record with a 2.77 ERA, accumulating 89 strikeouts over 55.2 innings—a true display of his versatility.
Although Parker is currently committed to play for Mississippi State University, the Blue Jays now hold his professional rights, and they will look to develop his multifaceted game for the future.
