Beijing’s Sharp Denial Follows Trump’s Confusing Nuclear Order

Date:

Beijing has issued a sharp denial after Donald Trump accused China of secret nuclear testing, an allegation he used to justify his own confusing order for the U.S. to “start testing.” The U.S. directive’s vagueness has become a central point of concern.
A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry stated that Beijing is a “responsible nuclear-weapons state.” The official reinforced that China has always “abided by its commitment to suspend nuclear testing.”
This denial was a direct response to Trump’s claims in a CBS interview. He had alleged that both China and Russia were conducting tests “way underground,” hidden from public view.
Trump’s order, posted on social media, has baffled observers. It is unclear if it calls for simulations or a physical blast, which would end the decades-long U.S. moratorium on nuclear explosions.
This diplomatic spat follows a recent Russian test of a new nuclear-powered cruise missile. Trump has also been claiming the U.S. arsenal is the “world’s largest.”
