Rupert Grint is set to reprise his iconic role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” marking a significant return to the wizarding world over a decade after the final Harry Potter film. Grint, who captured audiences’ hearts alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in the film series, will join the stage show for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027.
Reflecting on his return, Grint expressed a deep connection to his character, stating, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He noted that revisiting the role now, with both him and Ron portrayed as fathers, provides a unique blend of familiarity and novelty.
This announcement follows the recent involvement of Tom Felton, who stepped back into his role as Draco Malfoy for the Broadway production. Felton’s return has been well-received, and he is slated to continue performing until January.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded to various international locations, amassing over 14 million tickets sold worldwide. The New York production alone has generated a substantial $532 million in revenue. Grint’s upcoming participation adds yet another layer of excitement to the already thriving show.
Beyond his work in the Harry Potter films, Grint first graced Broadway with his debut in the comedy “It’s Only a Play” in 2014. His post-Potter career includes roles in “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” Meanwhile, the Harry Potter universe continues to expand with a new television series in development for HBO, aiming to introduce the beloved story to a fresh audience.
