Russian sustained bombardment killed at least one person and wounded 15 others in Kyiv and Kharkiv, continuing even as negotiation teams convened in Abu Dhabi. The ongoing strikes on residential areas demonstrated persistent military pressure while diplomatic teams worked toward peace.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko issued urgent warnings that the capital faced sustained bombardment from a “massive enemy attack,” instructing residents to remain in shelters. The continuous strikes targeted residential buildings, causing casualties and extensive damage. Heat and water infrastructure was disrupted as bombardment continued.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Kharkiv experienced sustained bombardment from Iranian-manufactured Shahed drones, which damaged several residential complexes. The ongoing drone strikes caused widespread destruction to civilian housing. The northeastern city has faced sustained military pressure throughout the nearly four-year conflict.
Despite sustained bombardment, negotiation teams convened in Abu Dhabi for two-day talks. American, Russian, and Ukrainian teams engaged in discussions that the UAE foreign ministry described as efforts “to promote dialogue and identify political solutions to the crisis.” The convening of dedicated negotiation teams represented serious diplomatic commitment.
President Zelensky announced that peace proposals were “nearly ready” as negotiation teams continued their work. He proposed creating a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Kyiv’s control following his meeting with President Trump.
