Russia to Resume Peace Talks with Ukraine and U.S. in November

Date:

Russia has agreed to resume peace talks with Ukraine and the United States as early as November, according to an announcement from the Kremlin. The proposed negotiations, which aim to address the ongoing conflict, could take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on or after November 10. This development follows a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg.

The focus of these discussions is expected to center on security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine in the event of a potential end to hostilities. Although the talks will be conducted at a technical level, significant disagreements persist between Moscow and Kyiv regarding the terms of a possible peace agreement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shown support for the negotiations and suggested that freezing the conflict along the current front lines could serve as a practical starting point for ending the fighting. However, Zelensky emphasized that this would be contingent upon Ukraine receiving reliable security guarantees from the United States and European countries.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has been increasing pressure on Ukraine to reach a settlement, while Washington continues to work towards bringing both parties back to the negotiating table. Despite these efforts, the Kremlin has indicated that some of the proposals discussed in recent diplomatic meetings remain unacceptable to Moscow.

Despite the renewed diplomatic initiative, fighting has continued. Overnight attacks reportedly injured civilians in Kyiv, and Russian authorities have reported casualties from drone attacks targeting the Moscow region.

The planned negotiations represent another attempt to find a diplomatic solution to the war, although major obstacles such as disagreements over territorial control, security arrangements, and the terms of a ceasefire continue to challenge the path to a lasting peace agreement.
