BRICS Urged by Xi to Protect Sovereignty During Iran-US Conflict

Date:

At the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the bloc to oppose any violations of national sovereignty and interference in countries’ internal matters. He emphasized that the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States does not align with the international community’s collective interests. Xi pledged that China would collaborate with other BRICS nations to foster peace and address the turmoil in the Middle East. He urged the group to contribute positively to resolving global disputes while upholding the values of sovereignty and non-interference.

The summit, which gathers leaders from emerging and developing economies, focuses on trade, investment, and significant global conflicts. Among those present are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and other BRICS members. This meeting takes place against a backdrop of international tensions, including the conflict between Iran and the United States, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and persistent strains in US-China relations.

Xi Jinping’s visit to India marks his first since 2019, as both Beijing and New Delhi aim to improve their bilateral relations after several years of discord. During the summit, Xi and Modi are also expected to engage in bilateral discussions, signaling efforts to mend ties between the two nations.

The BRICS Summit seeks to reinforce its influence in representing the interests of emerging economies. As these nations navigate through complex geopolitical landscapes, their collaboration aims to promote stability and a balanced approach to resolving conflicts on the global stage.
