China Urges Enhanced UK Ties Through Equitable Business Practices

Date:

In a bid to foster deeper cooperation, China has urged the United Kingdom to ensure a fair and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies. This appeal was made during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue held in Beijing. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope that the UK would facilitate favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises, thereby supporting the growth of bilateral relations.

The dialogue comes as both nations have resumed exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, following recent high-level interactions. Wang Yi highlighted the significance of maintaining open communication, enhancing practical cooperation, and championing multilateralism amidst global uncertainties. The discussions underscored the roles of China and the UK as key international players in addressing global challenges and promoting balanced global governance.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, participating in the dialogue, reaffirmed Britain’s dedication to upholding stable and constructive ties with China. She emphasized the increasing importance of stronger dialogue and collaboration as both countries navigate a complex international landscape. Cooper also reiterated the UK’s consistent stance on the Taiwan issue, advocating for continued engagement with China while managing differences through dialogue.

Economic and trade cooperation was a focal point of the talks, with both sides exploring opportunities in emerging fields such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Cooper’s visit included strategic meetings in Beijing and Shenzhen, aimed at broadening cooperation in these areas. Analysts suggest that the dialogue signifies efforts by both governments to translate recent political agreements into tangible outcomes, while maintaining communication on global concerns and economic collaboration.
