China and US Agree to Mutual Tariff Reductions on $30 Billion Worth of Goods

Date:

China and the United States have agreed to reduce tariffs on approximately $30 billion worth of goods from each side, following recent economic and trade discussions. This agreement covers tariffs on around 90% of the specified products, which will be lowered to most-favoured-nation rates. The implementation of these tariff reductions will occur simultaneously, contingent upon the completion of domestic procedures in both countries.

The two nations have also decided to extend their current economic and trade arrangement from November 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. Furthermore, they are continuing negotiations to establish a longer-term agreement. To enhance bilateral trade discussions, China and the US will form a Board of Trade. Additionally, an agricultural working group is set to address market access and regulatory concerns.

In terms of investment, the countries have agreed to create a bilateral investment board. This board will focus on exploring investment opportunities, identifying trade barriers, and improving policy transparency. These initiatives aim to strengthen economic ties and foster mutual benefits.

China and the US have also committed to ongoing discussions on artificial intelligence. Another round of talks is scheduled before the end of November, aimed at establishing a new communication channel to address AI-related incidents. This move reflects both nations’ recognition of the importance of AI in future economic and technological collaborations.
