EPC Begins Mass Producing 100 V GaN Power Stages for Motor Drives

Date:

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has launched mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, which includes models EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. These ePower™ Stage ICs are tailored for high-performance motion-control applications, offering a compact and thermally enhanced design by integrating high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry within QFN packages. Capable of supporting up to 100 V operations, the devices provide current ratings of either 35 A or 20 A depending on the model, aiming to enhance power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.

Key features of this new product line include fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and the ability to operate continuously at a 100% duty cycle. Additionally, the devices offer single-input PWM options, making them suitable for multi-axis motor-control applications. To support these advancements, EPC has also released evaluation boards—EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131—designed for three-phase BLDC motor-drive applications. These platforms incorporate the new power-stage ICs and come equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing capabilities, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions.

The new GaN power-stage ICs are being distributed globally through channels like Digi-Key and Mouser. They are particularly aimed at applications in humanoid robotics, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. In terms of pricing, the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models are available at $3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at $2.47 each for orders of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards, EPC91128 and EPC91129, are offered at $640 each, and EPC91130 and EPC91131 at $630 each.

To provide further insight into the new integrated GaN power-stage ICs, EPC is also releasing a white paper available in English and Chinese. This document will cover the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these innovative solutions. Founded in 2007, EPC specializes in enhancement-mode gallium nitride (eGaN®) power devices and integrated circuits, developing GaN-based power solutions for a variety of industries, including DC-DC converters, lidar, motor drives, robotics, drones, and satellite systems.
